Grieving My Old Life

Due to a economic recession in 1984 we were washed ashore by the flow of the river onto Cortes Island.  We were broke, but my wife had just accepted her first temporary teaching contract with SD#72 and I soon found work as a heavy duty marine mechanic at Q-Cove Boatworks, a 45 minute ferry ride from Cortes.  I thought that I had died and gone to heaven.   All our hard work had paid off and our future looked bright.  Then I fell off the marine ways at Q-Cove and had to change occupations.   My old life had ended.

I rebuilt my life but it was not until the year 2000 that all the bills were paid off.   In 2005 we took a vacation.   All our hard work had paid off and our future looked bright.    I had a heart attack four months later.   My old life had ended.  I rebuilt my life but I was broke again, our next vacation was not until October 2017.

In October 2021 a lump was detected on my right lung.  My life had ended again.

I live with someone who loves me, in one of the best places on the planet.  Always have.
